Described by her friends as kind, honest, and a little bit sassy, Laura is a hardworking and passionate addition to our Front of House Team. She's currently working towards a Law & Society degree at the University of Calgary (which, by the way, will be her second degree - she's already got one in Psychology from the University of Mississippi!), and when she has a rare day off, you'll find her curled up with a good book, strolling around town, or doing yoga.
Don't be fooled by her love of country music, this now resident of Calgary was actually born in Venezuela and has lived all over the place, including countries in the Caribbean and the USA. Laura is a native Spanish speaker, and is no stranger to working hard and crushing obstacles. "When I was 13, my mom and I moved to Trinidad & Tobago. I didn’t speak any English, yet she enrolled me in school with English speaking kids. My goal was to learn enough to pass my classes. My biggest obstacle (and enemy) was the English-Spanish dictionary! Once I let go of it, I was able to learn enough English not to just “pass” my classes but to get on the honour roll and land second in my class within a semester. I’ve got to admit it was a great feeling!"
Laura's favourite way to Crush it? My favourite class is circuit because of the fast pace, the instructors have also been great at modifying workouts for my shoulder injury making me feel like I am still rocking my work out!
Currently Crushing: My current goal is to finish my second degree in two years instead of three (so far, I'm on track with only two semesters to go!). My fitness goal is to get around my shoulder injuries and be able to do a full workout without any modifications.
And I quote: “When you feel like quitting remember why you started.” It's always important for me to remember my goals when things get hard or complicated. It’s important to focus, figure out a plan and keep going, because wouldn’t you want to know what happens if you don’t quit?!
