RACE TRAINING SERIES

Sundays 1:15 - 2:30 pm | April 15 - May 20, 2018

Do you have your eye on an upcoming half marathon? Do you struggle with sticking to your training plan? Do you want to improve your technique and performance, and learn to avoid injury and reduce pain?

Running 21.1KM is no small feat. Whether it is your first or tenth race, every runner has a goal to improve time, or prevent injury, or feel stronger during the race. Most runners are comfortable with the idea or practice of gradually increasing mileage over the course of a training program, but there is more to performance than just running. Cross training, intervals, mobility, nutrition, and mindset all play an important role in your race day performance.

The 6-week CrushCamp Race Training Series is the first cross-training program dedicated to runners. Each 75-minute session will include a 60-minute interval workout designed specifically to strengthen the muscles needed for running, followed by 15 minutes of rolling, mobility, and stretches, customized to the needs of the group.

WHAT YOU WILL GET:

Custom 1/2 Marathon training plan, including group runs and at-home workouts
Six weeks of individualized training and accountability with community experts
Two optional group runs per week
Six 60-minute group cross-training classes designed specifically for runners
Weekly mobility sessions with take-home exercises
TravelRoller® release ball

THE RACE CREW

 RACHEL HALL  Wrapped up in that small but mighty package is a powerhouse both in strength and smarts. This UofC Varsity wrestler lives and breathes health and wellness, and is coming to us from years of personal training and group fitness coaching. Rachel also doubles as our Training Lead bringing  such depth in knowledge to the table. Just like many of us, Rachel turned to cross training to supplement sport and ultimately feed her soul: “through injuries, mid terms and break ups working out was my go to stress reliever, I knew I wanted an excuse to be able to workout always.”  Known for sneakily (but safely) getting you to that next level, Rachel is all about concrete technique while cracking the odd joke or five. Count on walking out with a couple of personal bests and all of the high fives.    Vibe:  A good remix of the oldies but goodies. Something you can sing along to, groove to and of course sweat it out to.   Currently Crushing:  Right now I am working on learning how to take care of myself, what are my limits, how much sleep do I need at night and what foods make me feel energetic? All questions I am taking the time to work out with the help of other professionals in my field, books and quiet time.     And I quote:    “ Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire.”

RAF LOPEZ - PROGRAM CONSULTANT/GUEST SPEAKER

Leader of YYCRunCrew, co-founder of Wander Adventure Co, five-time SeaWheeze Pace Beaver, legacy lululemon run ambassador, triathlete, IronMan finisher, and all-around great guy are just some of Raf's credits. In his words: “Some people create with words or with music or with a brush and paints. I like to make something beautiful when I run.”

Angela Jansson - Program Consultant/Guest Speaker

Angela (or, Ange as the world knows her) is a NAASFP Marathon Running Coach and has been running races all over North America since 2010. After being sidelined by injuries for two years, Angela is ready to get back to running stronger and better thanks to CrushCamp.

Dr. Kayti Bates - Mobility Master

As both a CrushCamp Coach and a chiropractor with evolve Chiropractic & Wellness, Kayti hustles on the daily to help her patients move better and thrive with active lifestyles. With a background in powerlifting, fitness modelling, CrossFit, and running, she brings a wide range of stories and experiences to her mobility practice and is an absolute wealth of knowledge around all things movement!

EMILY SLANEFF - FOUNDER OF CRUSHCAMP/CHIEF CHEERLEADER

Emily signed up for her first half marathon in January 2013 having never run more than 5K, as a way to meet people and create a health-minded community. Since then, she has run half marathons in Nashville, Austin, Calgary, Toronto, and most recently the SeaWheeze in Vancouver. She loves running for the sunshine and the community and the satisfaction of a goal accomplished: to cross the finish line, with a smile on, wanting to do it again! 

2018 Run Goals: Cheer on her friends at the Calgary Marathon, and crush the Edmonton lululemon 10K!
